Negar is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She received her Master’s degree in Psychological Counseling from Columbia University. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biopsychology at the University of British Columbia.
Negar is a professional member of the American Counseling Association. She is a Level 1 Trained Therapist in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and a Trained Functional Family Therapist (FFT).
Negar is a compassionate therapist who aims to create an accepting and validating space for her clients. She believes that all humans are wired for healing and growth and her approach to therapy is strength-based, emotion-focused, and relational. Negar works collaboratively with her clients to set goals, identify barriers to growth, and increase coping skills. As a multicultural individual, she pays special attention to cultural context and intersections of identity.
Negar has experience working with individuals, adolescents, couples, and families in outpatient, home-based, and private practice settings. She is able to appreciate the struggles individuals face in their relationships. Negar uses an evidence-based and systemic model to help adolescents and families struggling with a variety of issues, including substance use, conflict, transitions (i.e. divorce, arrival of a new sibling), low self-esteem, difficulty regulating emotions, and behavioral issues at home and at school. She believes that given the right set of tools, every family can use their relationships as a source of strength and support.
